Hamlet: Hamlets Sanity :: Shakespeare Hamlet Essays
Hamlet: Hamlet's Sanity ââ¬Å"Great wits are sure to madness near allied, and thin partitions do their bounds divide.â⬠Though John Dryden's quote was not made in regard to William Shakespeare's Hamlet, it relates very well to the argument of whether or not Hamlet went insane. When a character such as Hamlet is under scrutiny, it can sometimes be difficult to determine what state he is in at particular moments in the play. Nonetheless, Hamlet merely pretends to be insane so that he can calculate his moves according to the situation at hand. There are many situations throughout the play that are enough to bring Hamlet to insanity. Take, for example, Act IV, scene II, after Polonius's death. Hamlet's day has been hectic; he finally determines that Claudius has killed his father. The chance to kill Claudius confronts him, and he comes very close to convincing Gertrude that Claudius killed his father. Hamlet accidentally kills Polonius and finally, the ghost of his father visits him. Though at this point these situations create plenty of reasons for Hamlet to be insane, he remains sharp and credible. ââ¬Å"[Hamlet] concocts this state of madness...his intellect remains clear, his discourse sound and comprehensive,â⬠(Harris, p. 129). Hamlet reveals to his friends and his mother of his plans to pretend act insane. He tells Horatio that he is going to "feign madness," and that if Horatio notices any strange behavior from Hamlet, it is because he is putting on an act. (I, v). Hamlet also tells his mother that he is not mad, "but mad in craft." (III, iv). In addition to his confessions, Hamlet's madness only manifests itself when he is in the presence of certain characters. When Hamlet is around Polonius, Claudius, Gertrude, Ophelia, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, he behaves irrationally. When Hamlet is around Horatio, Bernardo, Francisco, The Players and the Gravediggers, he behaves rationally (Bevington, p. 59). Some of the characters themselves come to realize that Hamlet is not mad. Claudius confesses that Hamlet's "actions although strange, do not appear to stem from madness." (III, i). In addition, Polonius admits that Hamlet's actions and words have a "method" to them; there appears to be a reason behind them, they are logical in nature. (II, ii). Hamlet is also able to make smart remarks to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, comparing them to sponges. "When he (Claudius) needs what you have gleaned, it is but squeezing you and, sponge, you shall be dry again," ( ). This is random and unexpected, as many of his actions, but the comparison makes sense; Rosencrantz and Guildenstern soak up all the kings

Marketing Case Study for Glitz Essay
1. What factors affect the pricing decisions for a product such as Glitzz? Analyze these factors and comment on the range of prices that can be set. The right price must generate enough sales dollars to pay for the costs of developing, producing, distributing and marketing the product as well as earn a profit for the company. There are various factors that affect the pricing decision such as objectives, demands and market forces. We will examine these factors in detail below. 1.1 Company Factors Before embarking on pricing decisions, it is necessary to understand companyââ¬â¢s objectives. Lee Jr. and Albert are looking to achieve long-term profit making and sustainability in the market. Higher importance would then be given to obtaining increased market share and sales over immediate profit making. Glitzz needs to focus on gaining foothold in the market, as it would be a new product facing relatively established competing brands and products. As such, Glitzz should not be priced at premiums but instead work to encourage trials, consumer acceptance and return business. If successful, high profits should follow. 1.2 Consumer Factors Consumer factors such as demand for the particular product class, product or brand, price and availability of similar product, price sensitivity as well as perceptions of value can affect pricing decisions and help Lee Jr. and Albert gauge feasibility and acceptability of prices. The demand for the product is extremely important for pricing decisions. The greater the demand, the higher can the product be priced. Demand by consumers is affected by four factors. (1) Consumer Tastes (2) Price and Availability of Substitutes (3) Consumer Income and (4) Price of product. Glitzz can be classified as unsought goods; products that potential consumers do not normally want or know they can buy. These products are not searched for and do not create demand in consumers initially. Consumers of such product only buy when they perceive the necessity for it. As such, creation of awareness and education about product benefits becomes crucial for retailers and creators. This translate to the need for increased budgeting assigned to advertising strategies such as personal selling, relatively aggressive advertising and benefit demonstrations, increasing fixed overhead costs for marketing and distribution. Glitzz would be a complementary product, with its demand somewhat predicated on the prices and sales of relevant product classes such as jewelry, diamonds and watches. There is negative cross elasticity between Glitzz and the above mentioned product class, i.e. the decrease in prices of jewelry, diamonds and watches would bring an increase in demand for cleaning agents such as Glitzz. In times of recession, luxury goods such as the above may not be highly sought after, affecting Glitzzââ¬â¢s ability to sell due to its nature as a derived product. Pricing strategies should take into consideration market trends and demands of these product classes and be adjusted accordingly. Consumersââ¬â¢ perception of values and benefits provided by a product will affect the amount of money they are willing to pay in exchange for the product and their price elasticity. Assessing value involves the judgment by a consumer of the worth and desirability of a particular product relative to its substitutes. At the core level of the product, Glitzz is a jewelry cleaner, delivering to consumers the opportunity to renew and bring back the shine in their precious stones, jewelry and watches. The tangible benefits offered come from the productââ¬â¢s non-corrosive, non-abrasive and gentle on skin nature. Premium natural ingredients used in the making of the product are also marketed as a key attribute. The attribution values of Glitzz will translate into a definitive price that consumers deem worthy for the product. Lee Jr. and Albert have already taken steps to survey consumer market and test product responses. The NUS student researchers found that few consumers are willing to pay more than SGD20 for the product. Price and availability of similar products are also strong molding forces on pricing for new entry products such as Glitzz. Technological advances and increasingly discerning consumers meant heightened awareness about substitute products and prices. The ability to compare similar products and weigh out the benefits against cost, affects consumersââ¬â¢ decision-making and willingness to pay for a product. The way to mitigate such comparisons is to possess strong distinguishing characteristics from its competitors. Glitzz, however, seem to be substitutable by many alternatives in the market. An in-depth competitor analysis is as follow. Brilliant Restorer and Glitzz Brilliant Restorer and Glitzz appear to be offering analogous product benefits and have similar dispensing system and packaging. It is also under a largely established distributor brand, Gordon Max. It is distributed through channels that Glitzz is thinking of using, taking up counters at large departmental stores such as Tangs. It appears to be Glitzzââ¬â¢s main competitor, targeting similar markets, offering similar benefits and marketing in similar channels. Connoisseur and Glitzz Connoisseur practices product differentiation, offering a range of specialized cleaning agents for different kinds of metals. It may lose out on the convenience associated with the all-purpose Glitzz, but can market itââ¬â¢s specialized uses as a plus point. The company has strong advertising roots, marketing its products in mainstream newspapers and online. Glitzz may face threats stemming from Connoisseurs strong advertising efforts. Powervescent and Glitzz Powervescent is a tablet-form cleaning product, offering similar benefits at very low price. It may be less convenient to use when compared to Glitzzââ¬â¢s pump bottle design. Powervescent does not distribute in Singapore and is in process of setting up its e-store. While Powervescent may prove to be a competitor among price sensitive consumers in the future, its low prices may also be viewed as a reflection of its quality. As such, it may not be as big a competition to Glitzz as others. Cleaning Machines and Glitzz The second tiered competitors offer jewelry-cleaning machines with high technology performances such as the Connoisseur Jewelry Bath ($49), Savco Jewelry Cleaner ($95) and OSIM uSonic ($108). It is priced much higher than cleaning solutions such as Glitzz but seem to promise better and more targeted results. The products may be marketed at affluent consumers or retailers mostly. It is not as close a substitute as portable, self-administered cleaning products such as Brilliant Restorer. Other solutions for dirty or tarnished jewelry include common soap and toothpaste as well as free cleaning services provided by retailers as a value-add for purchases. The large number of substitutes makes demand for such products very elastic; i.e. consumers are price-sensitive and decrease in prices will lead to increase in demand for the product. Glitzz would have to pay extra attention to Brilliant Restorer and Connoisseurs as they are close substitutes and their prices will be critical in the pricing decision. Glitzz is a normal good and is relatively price elastic as compared to necessity goods or luxury goods. As such, lowering prices and keeping check with competitorsââ¬â¢ prices becomes the key to increasing consumer demand. 1.3 Competitive Factors Pricing for Glitzz is constrained by the type of market in which it competes. Jewelry cleaning products compete in a monopolistic competition market structure. There are a number of competitors competing on both price and non-price factors. For example, Lockhart competes with its low prices in the sector while OSIM offers high technology solution as the unique selling point. Understanding the environment in which they compete will allow a deeper insight into the range of acceptable prices, extent of market differentiation and importance of advertising. In such an environment, Glitzz should allocate more budgets to advertising to distinguish itself from its competitors. This means a rise in costs and subsequently, a necessary rise in pricing. Also, its prices should strive to not deviate too much from the competing productsââ¬â¢ prices. To be effective, pricing must work to cover the costs and make profits. It is therefore necessary to take into considerations the various costs involved in producing, packaging, marketing and distributing the product. The cost of production for Glitzz in this case includes the SGD5000 re-packaging consultation fee and the direct production cost of Glitzz cleaning solution and fees associated with packaging it into 30ml pump bottles to achieve sales state. Overhead costs may also include distribution fees such as retailerââ¬â¢s cut in exchange for sales services and media fees to advertise the product. Keen research and delicate mediation of all the above company, consumer and competitive factors will allow conclusion of a feasible price that is most symbolic of the value Glitzz hold. I propose a price range of SGD13 to SGD17. The ultimate upper limit as surveyed by NUS students is SGD20. The ultimate lower limit is established with the unit variable costs and other production costs in mind, which will be SGD5 at the initial stage. The recommended price ranging between SGD13 to SGD17 takes into consideration competitorsââ¬â¢ prices, companyââ¬â¢s objectives and consumersââ¬â¢ buying responses. The suggested price should work to undercut competitorsââ¬â¢ prices and stimulate trials while not deviating too much from the market rate. This way, Glitzz can remain profitable, competitive and achieve a breakeven within a short period of time. 2. What price would you recommend for Glitzz? Why? I would recommend Glitzz be sold at SGD14. In the monopolistic competition market structure, Glitzz cannot simply establish its price as an independent company. It has to be subjected to the market demand and supply forces, causing prices to be relatively similar to its close competitors. To use a demand-oriented pricing approach, Glitzz should engage in penetration pricing. By setting a relatively lower price to its competitors, Glitzz can ensure interest and high levels of appeal during the launch stage in the market. Whether or not penetration market works is predicated on several factors. Firstly, consumer base should be relatively price sensitive. This aspect is fulfilled in the case of Glitzz. With the existence of many substitute products in the market, there is high demand elasticity. Consumers with no immediate preferences or prior experiences may make purchase decisions based on prices. By setting the price at SGD14, Glitzz can subtly undercut its competitors and establish its value. Secondly, as a new product in its introductory stage, Glitzz has to work on overcoming its weakness in terms of its new entry and unknown brand identity. Glitzzââ¬â¢s main objectives should then be to stimulate trials and slowly accumulate market share. Penetration pricing helps to encourage first purchases and can work hand-in-hand with quality control and good brand management to build market share. Increased volume of sales will help maximize profits for Glitzz as unit production and marketing costs falls. That being said, Glitzz products must not be priced too low and deviate too much from similar competitors. Assuming Glitzz eventually decides to market and distribute its product through large departmental stores like Robinsons, its breakeven price for the initial batch of 20,000 where total cost = profit margin will be at SGD10.50. We have to price higher than SGD10.50 to break even and lower than SGD14 to SGD17 to undercut the competition. It is not feasible for Glitzz to price its product closer to the end of SGD10.50. Firstly, it may encourage a price war where competitors engage in successive price-cutting to increase or maintain market share. This can only be detrimental to the entire industry in the long run. Secondly, Glitzz as a new company needs to have buffer in profits to invest in further marketing or advertising efforts, cope with emergency operational issues or save up for brand expansion. Also, the skimming pricing method would not work for Glitzz as its product is too homogenous and not differentiated enough to justify premium pricing. In addition, the pricing of Glitzz cleaning solution at the higher end of the SGD10.50 to SGD14 range ensures Glitzz have future opportunities and space to conduct promotional initiatives such as discounts and still be profitable. Consumers may not take kindly to products increasingly their prices after a successful intitial promotion period where low prices were offered. This may affect their perceived image of the brand and be detrimental to future sales. In essence, Glitzz product pricing must be low enough to undercut competitors to generate interest in consumers and high enough to allow profit maximization. While the penetration pricing strategy can help to build volume, managers must keep close track of the costs and monitor its effects on the market. 3. What strategy would you propose for Glitzz? What costs and expenses would be involved? Calculate the break-even point. Glitzz at its point of entrance would be at the introduction stage of its product life cycle. Here, the marketing objective should be to gain awareness. This objective is further amplified by the nature of Glitzz as an unsought good. There is high level of need for promotional and advertising efforts to inform and educate the public about the presence and benefits of Glitzz. According to past track records, Glitzz did well in promoting with in-store counters and consumer exhibitions. This has roots in the personal selling and benefits-demonstration means of promotion. I would recommend Glitzz to continue with such channels of marketing and to distribute and promote their products with departmental stores such as Robinsons. As a new product, this would allow consumers to experience the benefits of Glitzz first-hand at well-established shopping places, triggering first purchases and trials. To give a concrete example, on top of in-store distribution, Glitzz could hold demonstration booths at shopping mall forums to introduce its products. Free samples could be given out to generate brand awareness and trials. Costs involved and Assumptions made * Production cost of one bottle of Glitzz at SGD5 (Unit Variable Cost) * Branding Consultation Fee at SGD5000 (Fixed Cost) * Promotional Event at approximately SGD25000 (Fixed Cost) Amount from assuming a 3 days (6 hrs/day) promotional event at a shopping mall costing about SGD9000 in rentals, with an estimated 3000 samples to be given out and an employment of 3 sales assistants at SGD100 per day. The event will total up to about SGD$24900 * Distribution Margin for Retailers at its maximum of 50% Profit Margin * One bottle of Glitzz is priced at SGD14 Hence given the list price of SGD14, the newly incurred marketing cost coupled with the sunk cost of consultation fee will result in the breakeven point being at 15 000 bottles of Glitzz, a highly feasible goal. I believe that promotions and demonstrations should be used at the initial stage of the product launch to create awareness and inform consumers of its existence. Subsequently, advertising in other forms should follow to distinguish Glitzz from its competitors and achieve brand recognition and preference. Glitzz would have to reevaluate costs and prices to determine next marketing move then.

Case Study of Bicester Village in UK-Free-Samples for Students
In todayââ¬â¢s modern world, incomes are rising rapidly and luxury goods are getting available widely, with the attitudes regarding the display of wealth shifting with time. Due to this, more and more Chinese consumers are feeling more comfortable in buying luxury goods. Because of this, the love for these products in china is moving down the economic ladder, meanwhile creating challenges and opportunities simultaneously for the marketers who are used to serving just the very rich consumers. The upper middle class account for a large share of the market and their numbers are increasing swiftly. The interest in the luxury goods segment is moving over jewellery, handbags, fashion and similar products. A large number of the Chinese luxury goods consumers are also spending their money on spas and other wellness activities. The consumption for such luxury services are rising faster in comparison with luxury goods (Li, Li & Kambele, 2012). Over the past decade the Chinese have directed the world towards luxury shopping. By 2015, China was offering more luxury retail selling space than Japan and was swiftly catching up on USA, with the Chinese accounting for almost a third of the overall global luxury spending. Particularly the wealthy Chinese tourists have been the key directors of the international luxury goods sales for more than a decade. As stated by the travel data released by Euromonitor International, the Chinese tourists made approximately 3 million trips to the USA in 2015, which was an upsurge of around 8% from 2014 and a huge 206% upsurge accounted for in the five years from 2010 to 2015 (Travel in China, 2016). In 2015 itself the Chinese made around 5 million trips to Japan, 2 million trips to France and 285 thousand trips to the UK, with most of these trips related to shopping expeditions or significant luxury retailers and shopping hotspots (Economic Impact 2016, 2017). However, in the years 2014 and 2015, the mainland of China recorded its lowest growth of sales of luxury products from the time when records began (Global luxury goods sales growth to stabilise in 2015 - Bain, 2014). Among some of the other factors getting influenced, this decrease in growth also implied that China would not be able to overtake Japan and then go on to become the worldââ¬â¢s second largest luxury goods market in the world in the next consecutive five years and it is anticipated to uphold its current position ahead of France and UK in the short to medium term. China recently put in an effort of curbing the wrongdoings in the luxury goods consumption. The effort became a crackdown on the grey luxury goods market that had prospered because of the major price variances among luxury goods within and outside of China. In cases of some Swiss-made timepieces, the alteration in price can be as high as 90% between Western Europe and China (Hancock, 2017). The major players in the grey market are mainly professional shoppers, who are travelling abroad in most cases for buying luxury goods in bulk. They take that back with them home for selling those wares either openly or online, and it has went on to become a business that is worth billions of US dollars. Back in 2016, the government stepped in to combat the grey market by stepping up their customer control and raised penalties for false declarations, which resulted in the increasing numbers of professional shoppers getting caught. However, this is just a single part of the crackdown. Beijing has even presented harsher taxation laws in major categories, with hiking tariffs on watches from 30% to 60% and on jewellery from 10% to 15% (Master & Wendlandt, 2016). These tariffs are applicable on the goods that are legitimately purchased through the internet and delivered in packages to China, and even on goods purchased abroad and brought back to China. The government also put a cap of CNY100,000 (US$15,473) per card on yearly withdrawals at foreign UnionPay cash machines. This is a huge issue for well-heeled Chinese tourists who are into shopping at luxury department stores like Barneys in New York, Galeries Lafayette in Paris and Harrods in London (Lopez, 2016). Several brand leaders in the luxury goods industry were bewailing about the adverse international trading conditions for a long time, and their influence on Chinaââ¬â¢s previously fast growing luxury goods market. This fresh crackdown over overseas spending by Chinese shoppers is another headwind to face and might be the most disorderly one till date. It was the hope of the Chinese government that higher tariffs would help durable luxury goods demand in the domestic market (Roberts, 2017). The enormous and creating number of Chinese luxury buyers can be credited to the rapidly rising disposable family pay rates in China. The amazingly well off Chinese families are clearly exceptional drivers of improvement for luxury and the prime concentration for luxury brands. In any case, the rising Chinese middle-class, including families with pay rates between USD 9,000 and USD 34,000, have transformed into the fast rising buyer divide in China ââ¬â they have transformed into the subject of much thought from overall brands (Aroche, 2015) These new contenders, whom are generally arranged in second tier urban groups, spend a considerable measure of their pay on luxury, using their purchases as pictures to demonstrate their extending social and money related status, and their desires to accomplish status. In spite of the way that middle-class customers spend less out and out than their wealthier accomplices, their numbers are adequately basic to solidly affect indicate luxury spending in China. According to McKinsey and Company, the overall organization consultancy firm, the Chinese middle class included 500 million people in 2015 (Barton, Chen & Jin, 2013). This number is foreseen to grow more than 550 million by 2022, tolerating that people numbers stay predictable (Atsmon & Magni, 2012). An interesting typical for Chinese luxury customers is that they are comparatively more young than their European and American accomplices ââ¬â 45% of Chinese luxury buyers are under 35 years of age, they are all around 14 years more energetic than their European accomplices, and 25 years more young than their American accomplices (Cbbc.org, 2015). The ordinary time of Chinese luxury customers is 33.1 years, with more than 80% of all Chinese luxury purchasers between the ages of 25 and 44. Women have transformed into a crucial rising measurement in the Chinese luxury goods exhibit, which has for the most part been overpowered by folks in the region of 35 and 45 years old (Yi, Yuan & Kumah, 2013). This is because Chinese women are beginning to get up to speed with men in numbers in the workplace, and thus are expanding more cash related flexibility and societal position. In like manner, their getting power has extended, and they are obtaining more luxury goods than whenever in late memory to repay themselves for steady work and individual accomplishments. With 25% of Chinese women increasing more than their male accessories, they now speak to three-fifths of the luxury goods publicize (Yi, Yuan & Kumah, 2013). Regardless of the directing of domestic luxury use, Chinese tourists are spending more in luxury retail territories abroad. Of the 27% of total overall luxury purchases by Chinese customers, it is assessed that almost 60% of luxury usage occurs outside the mainland and abroad (KPMG.com, 2017). As voyaging twists up obviously less requesting and all the all the more captivating, Chinese tourism has exploded, with the amount of Chinese tourists outperforming 80 million out of 2012. It is assessed that 72% of Chinese tourists purchase luxury goods abroad, and Chinese tourism is transforming into a basic jar to neighborhood economies around the world (KPMG.com, 2017). Another basic example in the Chinese market is the growing advancement of the Chinese luxury client, as tastes of arranged buyers create with stunning pace. There is a perceivable move of enthusiasm from luxury products showing logos to more minimized and exceptional products, leaving comprehended brands like Louis Vuitton and Gucci endeavoring to remain mindful of prior yearly advancement rates. This ponder is most obvious in tier one urban groups, for instance, Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, where clients have been acquiring luxury for a long time and are getting the opportunity to be perceptibly capable about shape and curious about what the world sees as in vogue. These tenured shoppers are beginning to focus on brand heritage, craftsmanship, and lack in their luxury purchases rather than obvious logos doubtlessly demonstrating wealth (Ye, Bose & Pelton, 2012). At the same time, significant amounts of the Chinese middle class are coming into wealth where they can endure the cost of luxury shockingly. Along these lines, there is up 'til now a strong enthusiasm for most likely comprehended, logo-decorated products that clearly demonstrate their newly found status in the Chinese social chain of significance. As the luxury goods market sections transversely finished wage levels and social classes, luxury goods associations are standing up to new troubles in fitting their product portfolios to meet distinctive slants, while meanwhile keeping up consistency and particularity in their brand cachet (Zhan & He, 2012). The need to use luxury goods is a direct result of the Chinese masses wantingà to exhibit their anomalous condition of wealthà to others. Theà rising gaining power and the effect of Western lifestyles have upheld luxury consumption and thus some first class brands have extending their embodiment in China with a particular true ob jective to misuse that condition. Nowadays, the best way to deal with be known amongà Chinese consumersà in the luxury market is through the web using digital frameworks andà tools. Indeed,à social mediaà and e-commerceà hold a strong effect over Chinese luxury buyers.à A generous number of Chinese purchasers knew accurately what they'll purchase before they arriveà at the store due with 90% of respondents communicating they plan their purchases early (Chiu, Ip & Silverman, 2012). Chinese buyers give watchful thought to the brand and country of-base of luxury goods and tend to hold slants for without a doubt comprehended foreign luxury brands with surely understood logos. Disguising any indication of disappointment go up against" could be a basic method of reasoning fundamental Asian purchasers' strong desires for indulgences regardless of the low ordinary pay. Gifting has been identi?ed as another basic manner of thinking in Chinese luxury product obtaining. Eating up exorbitant gifts re?ects the social chain of significance and furthermore upkeep of the agreement between collect necessities and individual needs. Asians a great part of the time purchase luxury goods for relatives and "package" families with luxury brands to display family wealth and status. Past research has associated gifting to working up guanxi in the Chinese society. Guanxi, illuminated as social ties, expect a key part in various walks around Chinese regular daily existences. Chinese pur chasers tend to assume that the all the more exorbitant the gift, the greater affirmation will be grabbed, the more "face" will be gotten, and the better relationship will be proficient (Zhang & Kim, 2013). Chinese purchasers are existing the components of unmistakable, likeness, self-delight and the journey for quality, which is advanced in the theoretical luxury consumption motivation. Meanwhile, Chinese purchasers in like manner have the refinement of the luxury shopper motivation: they have little motivation of regular self-explanation, however are of unprecedented vitality for the mission for materialistic play and superstar motivation. Here we can see the impact of customary culture of Chinese clients for their luxury shopper motivation (Ko & Megehee, 2012). Chinese shoppers' luxury consumption motivation has the going with perceptible components. To the exclusion of everything else, with respect to Western buyers, they focus on individual organized consumption regard; Second, in regards to Western purchasers, they focus on having a place individual immensity; Third, concerning Western clients, Chinese shoppers have a tendency to use the products' or brands' picture, and the consumption to express their class and status in people in general eye. Fourth, with respect to Western shoppers, they focus on the principle properties of luxury, when the Chinese clients pick and purchase the luxury goods; there are more group motivations to avoid the peril of buyers and to meet the mass intrigue. Fifth, in the luxury consumption of Chinese purchasers, there is a huge bit of them are used to set up their social relations as favors, to address social issues. Finally, starting late, due to the hoarding of social wealth, and furthermore the impact of the contemplation of consumerism and intemperance, Chinese buyers have begun to have a particular measure of individual arranged luxury purchaser motivation, for instance, self-happiness, fine quality and self gift (Jiang & Cova, 2012). The luxury discount village of Bicester, UK, was opened at Clarks Village in Somerset in 1993, the past site of the Clarks shoe mechanical office and not far from the Shoe Museum. McArthurGlen, set up by Harvard-taught Joey Kaempfer, by then started copying US-style outlet malls in Europe with centers like Cheshire Oaks close Manchester. Today there are around 30 outlets in Britain, all things considered, a middle-class space with idealistic brands and the earth to match. Retail outlets are a beating position in a troublesome market. Most UK outlet centers have had yearly sales improvement of 10 for every penny over the latest couple of years, according to Jonathan Adams, senior head of retail valuations at property consultants CBRE. That is before designs for buyer spending: the Office for National Statistics said UK retail sales volumes rose 4.1 for each penny in September year on year. Outlet malls have similarly beated full-price shopping centers in capital regard, as demonstrate d by CBRE, growing by 40 for every penny overall since 2012; full-price shopping centers created by under 1 for each penny (Shannon, 2016).à As the outlets wind up observably higher-end, so do the shoppers. Regard Retail, the proprietor of Bicester, the most upmarket of the UK's outlet malls, says the well off and middle classes come to search for regard rather than discounts ââ¬â a fine, perhaps solely verbal, differentiate. Certainly, idealistic luxury shoppers might be less arranged to treat themselves to a section price pearl on Bond Street ââ¬â yet grabbing it decreased cost at Bicester is one of a kind. With the view of directing overall money related improvement, an unfriendly to corruption crackdown on self important "gift giving" in China and dread attacks counteracting tourism to elsewhere in Europe, top notch members, for instance, Time and Gems offer an appealing customer base and superior to anything normal edges (Seo, 2016). A common criticism of outlet malls is the idea of the stock since shoppers are clueless that products can be made especially to be sold in these outlets. Value Retail rushes to point out stock is not "made for outlet" in the watch and fine diamonds part, yet rather is from the brand's past gatherings or is a bit of an assurance of reconditioned stock. Some are watchful this contemplates well the brands. Having halted or unsold stock to fill these outlet stores proposes either poor stock control or associations creating especially for the outlets The Chinese economy has moved toward becoming enormously all through the last ten to twenty years, and all inclusive tourism to China is winding up fundamentally speedier. A part of the reasons behind this gigantic improvement are the general advancement of tourism, the Chinese open-door course of action, more persistent flights among China and whatever is left of the world, and unprecedented changes in Chinese transport establishment, lodging settlement and tourist attractions. Also in China, widespread tourism is viewed as a techniques for pulling in foreign exchange and as a lift to money related advancement. When measuring the impact of tourism, the primary issue is that tourism is not typically named a singular industry. In dealing with this issue, tourists' uses per thing total must be cured for foreign imports, and ought to be allocated to the conveying family unit industry. Basically after these modifications, would one have the capacity to assess the quick impact of tourism on, for instance, regard included or work. The second issue is picking the kind of underhanded effects one wishes to consider and, immovably related, picking of the exhibiting approach for assessing of the picked impacts. Various circumlocutory effects are caused by linkages between tourism-arranged organizations and diverse undertakings. Packs into these linkages overwhelmingly show that tourist establishments and tourism-orchestrated organizations have strong in turn around linkages with giving endeavors, however forward linkages with supplying industries are in every way that really matters truant (Xu, 2013). Today, the financial returns on several luxury shopping mall investments seem much less lucrative than they were five years age. This is due to the slower economic growth that is being specially felt in the interior of Greater China. Crucially, as shopping malls faces slower footfall and as retail sales subside, the luxury brands would require rethinking their growth strategies for the interior. The implications for the luxury industry totally are possibly far reaching, with the situation that Chinaââ¬â¢s interior was previously viewed as a beacon of future opportunity. In case we look outside of Greater China, a noteworthy piece of the positive sales compel saw in 2014 and 2015 in the made regions was truly fuelled by wealthy going to Chinese tourists. In any case, after the Chinese government ruined the renminbi in August 2015, China's outside spending power has become appalling. Added to that, the Chinese economy is set to continue cooling. These two troubles solidified will no doubt influenced the business' property sales mix, possibly setting off another move in overall wage control in 2016 (Carcano, 2013). The impact of a weakening economy is most likely not going to keep rich Chinese buyers from taking off to buy their luxury goods, be that as it may it might change their objective of choice and also signify in-objective spend. Short-pull objectives, for instance, South Korea and Thailand could get the prizes. In case Chinese purchasers cut back on outside trips help far from home, by then we could start to see yet another move to be resolved of vitality between the locale. Spending in North America, Western Europe and Japan could go down, while spending in China could even go up. It is difficult to envision how the condition will make later on. What we can state, nonetheless, is that, according to the examination, 2015 wound up being a champion among the most purposely fundamental years ever for the overall luxury goods industry. Aroche, D. Obama was right to call for national conversation on race Essay - 1
Obama was right to call for national conversation on race - Essay Example The situation is openly apparent, but it is manifested in sections of society and governance structures that are bias towards some races and ethnicities. The most apparent cases of racial discrimination are exhibited by systems within existing governance structures and the implementation of policy. An example is during the hurricane Katrina incident where government intervention and response was criticized for being below par. This is attributed to the fact that the area that was adversely affected by the devastating hurricane comprised of minority African Americans thus; the governments illustrated prejudice in its reaction to the plight of these affected people. This paper seeks to present an analysis on whether Americans need a national conversation on race. The race issue in the US is exacerbated by the fact that slavery was an already established societal norm that permeated the American culture and traditions. Racism in the US is manifested through various aspects, and it is an apparent phenomenon that those who suffer racism belong to a certain racial background. African Americans have suffered the most severe manifestation of racism because they represent the foundation upon which the issue of race is founded in the US. Majority of slaves in the slavery days were of African origin who were considered second class human beings wherever they went in almost every part of the world where slavery was practiced. Advocacy and campaigning for an end to slavery was met with a lot of resistance because the white enslavers saw this as a threat to their source of cheap labor. African Americans have carried this adage of being second class citizens into the 21st century albeit a bit subdued, but the existence of these should not be ignored. The accomplishments of the Civil Rights Movement have worked to establish African Americans as equal members of the US society. Open racism against African Americans is rarely seen or experienced, but it still does exist in vario us aspects of American society and life. The recent Trayvon Martin incident and case in an American court serves to depict that racism is still an emotive issue in American society. This issue comes to the fore every time an African American is involved in an altercation of the law alongside an individual of another race especially a white person. The ruling on Trayvon Martinââ¬â¢s case brought the race issue to the fore especially after president Obama commented on the issue. Obamaââ¬â¢s direct reference to the race issue with regard to the Trayvon Martin case illustrated his unique position as bi-racial president to address the race issue and introduce a dialogue in America concerning race. Obamaââ¬â¢s prose about race in America elicited diverse views with some citing it as an appropriate moment in his presidency for him to address the issue. Other people saw Obamaââ¬â¢s foray into the race during Trayvon Martinââ¬â¢s murder trial as an attempt to boost his approva l ratings amongst the minority groups. The negative criticism Obama received for introducing the race angel in the case should not been. This is because it is his place as an African American president to address the race issue which is in his docket as other before him addressed issues that had affected them personally. According to Gerson, previous presidents had addressed issues t

Analyzing the character of Bird Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Analyzing the character of Bird - Essay Example At his present age of twenty eight years he still uses his nick name given to him in his adolescence. Carelessness and attitude to run away from challenging situations can clearly be witnessed by observing Birdââ¬â¢s behavior on the birth of his first child. Leaving his wife alone in the hospital to sweat he escapes into his years old desire of visiting Africa and imagines himself out of the hospital and into the market. Instead of returning back to the hospital to get to know of the status of the childââ¬â¢s birth he merely makes a phone call from a public phone to inquire about the status at the hospital. This behavior seems quite ironic. This is the time of a womanââ¬â¢s life when she needs her husband the most. This is when she needs all the encouragement and support to get motivated to assist the birth of the child. Just by knowing the fact that her husband is around, the man whose baby she is about to give birth to, is enough moral support for her. But Bird just didnâ â¬â¢t care. He opted for the easiest option available to him and ran out of the entire situation leaving his wife at the disposal of the doctors and his parents in law. Not very enthusiastic about fatherhood, Bird has been demonstrated as a person who runs away from all kinds of responsibilities. H feels that once he becomes a father he would be devoid of all his freedom, would be locked up in a cage with its door closed. The years that would come after his childââ¬â¢s birth would refrain him from going to Africa ââ¬â The land of his dreams! Severely struggling between duty and desire Bird is really disappointed with life when the much awaited birth of his child does take place. Unfortunately the new born is a defective child. This further pulls the morale of the already dejected father into dungeons. At this point in his life as well the only person he thinks about is himself. This can easily be conveyed via author Kenzaburoââ¬â¢s (1968) following words in which he depi cts Birdââ¬â¢s instant reaction upon the news of his childââ¬â¢s abnormal birth, ââ¬Å"Bird scuttled back to the bedroom, like a crab making for a ledge. He shut his eyes tight and tried to submerge himself in the warmth of his bed, as if by denying reality he could instantly banish it. But nothing changed. Bird shook in head in resignation.â⬠(15) Reacting selflessly at the hospital and without meeting his wife he leaves her behind in the maternity home he ventures on into his own world running away from the hard hitting facts of life. Some earlier instances of his life, narrated by himself, show that he has considered himself to be in distress ever since he has tied himself in the bond of marriage. He narrates this feeling of his with the similitude of a person being held in a cage with the door of the cage being left open. The fist escape he opts for right after his marriage is that he gets himself drunk continuously for four months. The only thing he did was that he g ot drunk and listened to music. This was all at the expense of a lifetime relationship that he had just stepped into, a responsibility that he faced in the face of a wife who was dependent on him and on top of it all at the expense of his education. Yes, Bird was studying when he ventured on this carelessness spree. Setting aside all future prospects of establishing himself in the society Bird risked his

How the war on terrorism affected the way of life in Afghanistan Research Paper
How the war on terrorism affected the way of life in Afghanistan - Research Paper Example The horrific terror attacks elicited a mixture of economic, political and social reactions globally. Anti-Islam and hatred discourse that failed to separate the ordinary Muslims from the despotic, militant terrorists was rife all over. Issues of distrust between Christian and Muslim communities led to increased antagonism and in some instances extremist tendencies. For example, in the West, incidences of Muslim beatings and at times killings were reported. Examples of Muslim extremist tendencies were evident through support of the terrorist activities. Following the 9/11 attacks, it was quite clear that a retaliation response by the American government led by George Bush was eminent. To this end, the greatest fear pertained to what form of retaliation, how it would be enforced and also the potential impacts on the ordinary lives of the Afghan citizens. The impacts on the Afghan citizenry were also being assessed in consideration that they were still suffering at the behest of the Tal iban regime. In the period leading to 9/11, the Bush administration had been subject to scathing criticism for its position on various policy issues locally and internationally. These issues ranged from, geopolitics, environmental, economic, defense, inequality among others. However, the ghastly terror attack of September 11 resulted to considerable reduction of criticism towards the Bush administration. On the contrary, support for the Bush administration in light of the terror attacks began to rise significantly. This support was as a result of the announcement of the retaliatory action that the American administration would embark after the terror attacks. To this end, on 20th September, 2001, President George Bush made a televised address in... Conclusion The war on terrorism that began in earnest over a decade ago, has clearly caused profound impacts. These impacts cut across the divide of both pro and anti crusaders of terrorism. To this end, the long protracted war has not only impacted countries targeted for terrorism networks, but also the primary opponents of terrorism such as the United States. Following the September 9/11 attacks, it is clear that the geo-political, economic and social spheres changed dramatically for all actors. In light of the United States, the change of stance pertaining to foreign policy in dealing with terrorism dramatically changed to a military offensive against any threat to its security. Furthermore, the social fabric pertaining to relations among diverse religions was visibly tested. In addition, the astronomical cost of funding the war presented another significant burden on the American citizenry as well as local political intrigues involving pro and anti war protagonists. However, one vital aspec t that did not receive adequate attention was the assessment of impacts on the ordinary Afghanis citizens. Evidently, much attention has been focused on America and their justification for the war on terror without due consideration to the Afghani citizenry.
